Background Introduction to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation’s Growth Angel Fund
The Growth Angel Fund, established in 2010, is a special public welfare fund intended to raise the awareness of the whole Chinese society to the growth and development of teenagers and children. Its objective is to make every child grow tall and healthy, and to improve the physical condition of Chinese teenagers and children. The fund forms an integral part of the “Red Cross Angel Plan” advocated and implemented by the Chinese Red Cross Foundation.
The Growth Angel Fund is a special fund that focuses on the height of teenagers and children in China.
The Fund will provide medical assistance to poor children and dwarf children, and promote scientific publicity public education on the growth and development and height of teenagers and children. It will make training and academic activities available for professional medical staff to learn about growth and development, etc. To date, the Fund has sponsored more than 2,000 dwarf children of needy families to achieve their dreams of growing tall through growth hormone drug treatment.
In 2015, the Growth Angel Fund launched the “Growth and Development Monitoring and Intervention Project for Chinese Teenagers and Children”, established a campus growth and development monitoring and intervention system, and conducted professional training on children growth and development for campus doctors in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens. As of February 2019, 17 campus doctors trainings have been carried out, covering more than 1,800 middle schools, primary schools and kindergartens.
