Recently, the 2020 China Public Welfare Annual Conference, hosted by CHINA PHILANTHROPY TIMES, was held in Beijing. With “the Blooming Era of Social Public Welfare” as its theme, the annual meeting invited public welfare practitioners and observers from governments, enterprises, foundations, industry organizations, universities and other institutions to jointly explore the development path of public welfare philanthropy, and commended the annual public welfare figures and public welfare enterprises at the scene of the annual conference. GenSci was given the distinction of “Public Welfare Enterprises 2020” for its outstanding contributions in epidemic prevention and control and humanitarian assistance.

At the beginning of spring in 2020, with the rise of the COVID-19 epidemic, the hearts of the whole nation were affected by the situation in Hubei and elsewhere. On January 25, GenSci urgently donated 1 million yuan to Chinese Red Cross Foundation (CRCF) to purchase epidemic prevention materials, and provided protective material support for medical workers who continued to fight on the anti-epidemic frontline. Epidemic prevention materials include medical non-woven hats, disposable medical masks, high-top foot covers, disposable face screens, disposable surgical clothes, medical rubber gloves, wall-mounted disinfection machines, etc.

At present, 11 hospitals, including Tongji Hospital, Wuhan Children's Hospital, Yichang First People's Hospital, etc., have all received the anti-epidemic materials.

As a leading genetic engineering pharmaceutical enterprise and one of the pharmaceutical enterprises with great innovative spirit in China, GenSci has been observing its corporate social responsibility in the areas of charity and public welfare.

In 2008, GenSci donated growth hormone with a value of 5 million yuan to CRCF. It also established the “Red Cross Angel Project -GenSci Medicare Assistance for Dwarf Children” project, which is China's first special medical assistance public welfare project for dwarf children from needy families.

In 2010, GenSci and CRCF jointly established the “Growth Angel Fund”. GenSci donated 2 million yuan to start the fund. The Growth Angel Fund has also become the only special public welfare fund that focuses on the growth and development of teenagers and children in China.

Over the years, GenSci has donated goods and funds valued at 243 million yuan to CRCF and more than 2,000 dwarf patients from poor families to make these people’s dream of growing tall come true. The company also donated 10 million yuan in medicines and charity money to provide medical assistance to all newly-diagnosed Prader-Willi Syndrome patients under the age of 2. In Hunan, Ningxia and other places with relatively fragile educational conditions, a total of 21 fraternity school clinics were built.

GenSci assisted in 22 school doctor trainings and trained more than 2,200 campus health doctors in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens. It donated 500,000 yuan to support the “Academician +” fund to provide training for pediatricians in Western China, which constituted significant assistance in the continuous improvement of professional skills, diagnosis and treatment level of pediatricians in the western part of the country. Finally, GenSci supported the public welfare project, “Caring for Families and Reproductive health”, and donated medicine worth about 6 million yuan to 900 needy, infertile couples, and helped needy families to rekindle their hopes.
